Filipino Riders Take Top Honours (5 October 2009)
Filipino riders captured the top two places in the UAE men’s Open cycling event held at the Al Khan corniche in Sharjah at the weekend.
Michael Primro led his compatriot, Farjo Muta, in the 45-kilometre race.
Primro gathered 28 points in the seven sprints event. Muta was eight pointsbehind. UAE’s cyclists, Bader Ali Thani, collected 10 points for third place.
UAE junior cyclist, Abdullah Ali Mansouri, meanwhile, emerged victorious in the junior under-18 event held in Umm Al Quwain on Saturday.
Al Mansouri, a junior national team cyclist of Al Arabi of Umm Al Quwain, gathered 23 points in the 35-kilometre race while Adil Dhaki of Al Nasr, came in second on 11 points. Dhaki’s teammate, Ali Abbas, was third.
Sultan Hussain gave Al Arabi their second top finish of the day by winning the junior under-15 race. Hussain outsprinted teammate, Mohammed Yousuf Al Masnouri, to claim the honours in the 25-kilometre event. Hassan Ali of Diba Hassan was third.
The races were supervised by Saif Suroor and Ali Saif.
